“Children should be educated and instructed in the principles of freedom.”

John Adams

OUR MISSION

We are a group of parents and community members who are founding an American Classical Leadership Academy in the Rogue Valley that will be public and tuition-free for families through our partnership with the John Adams Academies Inc.

The purpose of this education is to develop servant leaders who understand the great thinking of the ages and have courage and wisdom necessary to solve the problems of today’s complex world.

This education model dates back to 500 BCE in the early beginnings of democracy and mathematical and scientific study. Free thinking and the freedom to choose has prompted centuries of accelerated discovery and experimentation with truth since the time Cleisthenes became the father of democracy in Athens.

We revere the founding fathers and mothers and many others in following decades who desired and fought for liberty from of all kinds of captivity and created and interpreted a constitution that recognizes “all men are created equal”, and that humanity is “endowed by their Creator with inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”.

We are a growing group of more than 100 families committed to a classical model of educational freedom for scholars and teacher mentors. We plan to start educating at our first location in Fall 2023 using great books in their original form, the arts, and liberated teaching. This mirrors the way that our founding fathers and mothers instructed themselves and others over 200 years ago.

We will do this by creating a culture that embraces the following core values:

#1 – Appreciation of American National Heritage

#2 – Public and Private Virtue

#3 – Emphasis on Mentors and Classics

#4 – Scholar-Empowered Learning

#5 – Fostering Creativity and Entrepreneurial Spirit

#6 – High Standards of Academic Excellence

#7 – Modeling What We Teach

#8 – Abundance Mentality

#9 – Building a Culture of Greatness

#10 – Self governance, personal responsibility, and accountability

WHAT IS A CLASSICAL EDUCATION?

Rooted in the liberal arts and sciences, it offers a firm grounding in civic virtue and cultivates moral character:

It emphasizes the centrality of the Western tradition in the study of history, literature, philosophy, and the fine arts.

It features a rich and recurring examination of the American literary, moral, philosophical, political, and historical traditions to equip students for citizenship.

Its curriculum is balanced and strong across the four core disciplines of math, science, literature, and history, with explicit phonics instruction leading to reading fluency and explicit grammar instruction leading to language mastery.

The school culture demands moral virtue, decorum, respect, discipline, and studiousness among the students and faculty—and simultaneously produces a spirit of wonder and a desire to know that which is good, true, and beautiful.
